Homemade Philly Cheesesteak

Ingredients

  • beef shaved steak
  • 11 hoagie roll (large)
  • 11 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 11 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 11 white onion, sliced
  • 1 head1 head garlic
  • mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • avocado oil
  • kosher salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste
  • Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. 1 Cut the end off the garlic head and place it in a small cup. Drizzle with avocado oil, sprinkle with kosher salt and Italian seasoning, and toss to coat. Transfer to an air fryer and cook on max crisp for about 10 minutes until the cloves are soft and roasted.
  2. 2 While the garlic cooks, chop the red and green bell peppers and slice the onion. Heat a drizzle of avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the peppers and onion and cook, flipping occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and nicely seared.
  3. 3 Once the garlic is done, squeeze the roasted cloves out of their skins and chop or smash them into a paste. Cut the hoagie roll in half lengthwise and spread the garlic paste generously over the cut sides. Place the bread cut-side down in the same skillet (or a separate pan) over medium heat and toast until golden. Remove the bread and set aside.
  4. 4 In the same skillet, add any remaining garlic oil and the shaved beef steak. Cook over medium-high heat, flipping occasionally, seasoning with salt and pepper only, until the meat is fully cooked and browned. Return the sautéed peppers and onions to the pan to reheat and combine with the meat.
  5. 5 Pile the meat and vegetable mixture onto the toasted hoagie roll, then layer sliced mozzarella cheese on top. Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately.

Notes

A no-fuss Philly cheesesteak built on roasted garlic-rubbed toasted bread, seared peppers and onions, and juicy shaved beef — simple, satisfying, and surprisingly impressive.
